Remembering Charlie

October is known for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but all cancer sucks. This special edition of the Rohrich Blog has been written by our very own Carlie Clingan. Here is her touching tribute to her late father who passed almost a year ago after his hard-fought battle with cancer.

Charlie, Charlie, Charlie! When his name is mentioned, people always have a smile on their face and a great story to tell about him! My Dad was a guy you could always count on to have a good time with! He and my mom raised four daughters (and yes, I was his favorite!)

He loved golf, cold beer and making people laugh. Dad was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in April of 2021, and in October of 2021 the doctors told him he would not make it to my wedding on the 22nd of October. But like the strong guy he is, he politely told the doctors they were wrong!

He practiced walking around the house with his arm up to make sure he would walk me down the aisle. And to the surprise of the doctors and no surprise from the people who knew how strong he was; he not only walked me down the aisle, but he danced the most beautiful dance with me at my wedding to Sweet Child O’ Mine! He fought like hell and taught so many of us around him how strong the Goodwins can be!

Dad lost his battle in November of ’21 surrounded by his wife, four daughters, four sons-in-laws and six grandkids. I think everyone should be like Charlie, enjoy life to the fullest and fight like hell, the Goodwin way!
